We decided to have a little poll at the office to get into the World Cup spirit. One point of picking the correct outcome and an additional point for guessing the exact score. There are six of us playing and it is a just-for-fun kind of contest so there is no money involved. The predictions range from "expected" (Brazil winning it all) to a little "excentric" (Mexico winning the cup!) but it has given us a way to stay interested in the World Cup and share the futbol fever with the guys.

update: so I had a great day 6 where I earned 5 out of 6 points and enough to move out of last place. After day 7 (6/15) I am tied for 3rd place with 17 points. The leader has 19 and second place has 18 so it remains a very close group.
Cissé is out after breaking his leg during their warmup match against China. Today, England received good news and Rooney will remain in Germany with the rest of the team and should see action in the knock-out stage.
Oswaldo Sánchez, Mexico’s starting goalkeeper, returned to Mexico for the funeral of his dad who passed away on Wednesday. His return to Germany is in question at this time. Mexico’s opening match against Iran is Sunday and I hope Oswaldo will return and join the team for that game.
The Mavs beat the Suns in six games to earn their first trip to the NBA finals. Sarah and I were having dinner when I received a couple of text messages which pretty much told me the outcome of the game. However, it really was not a surprise given that after three quarters, the Suns only scored 66 points despite having a double digit lead in the second quarter!
I am a little sad to see the Suns end their season at home after losing that kind of lead but it is very fitting of the kind of year we had this season. Being a Suns fan takes guts because it is such an emotional roller coaster. You will just about go through every emotion you can experience as a human being in one quarter alone. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit here but you get my point. After seeing our team dismantled by free-agency last summer, this season is a great success. Congrats to the players, coaching staff and the organization in general. We have a great team and look forward to next year with Amare back out on the court.
I would’ve loved to have seen them go through to the finals but I also have to admit that they did not deserve it. A team that was well known for losing huge leads, all of the time, does not deserve to have a run at the Championship. Not for me anyways and people may disagree with my opinion. However, I feel confident that next year, Amare will give us the option to go inside when our outside shooters are frozen cold. We desperately needed that option against Dallas. Today, we close the chapter on this book and look forward to the cast for next year. I know it will be entertaining basketball for the Suns.
