I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Day in the company of family and friends. We have a lot to be thankful for this year and although we will not be able to be with family on this day, we’ll be spending the evening with some great friends.
Unlike last year and the year before I did not buy a charity turkey this year. Sarah sent me an email a few days ago but it escaped my memory. However, I am glad that Sarah picked up where I left off since she provided the Heredia-Schott family Thanksgiving contribution to feed the ones in need.
I am so happy November 7th is here and even happier that it will be over in just a matter of hours. I celebrate this country’s freedom to vote and exercise our right to democracy but I also despise the amount of tv ads and phone calls that we have been subjected to over the last few days.
The country will be a different political landscape tomorrow morning but you have to agree that political-ad-free tv is a good thing for the people of this country. Let’s enjoy the silence for the next few months.
We are off to the other side of the world for a few days, to recharge our batteries and enjoy the reward of the chaos we have endured these last few weeks. The wedding was perfect and we’ll write a nice review of the whole weekend while we are away. See you soon!
My phone stopped working last night so I am phone-less for the next three to five business days
according to the Sprint service center. They could not nail down the reason for the keyboard to stop working so they have to order a replacement and thus the few days without a phone.
If you need to get a hold of me try sending an email just to make sure I get it. I will check my voicemail and return calls as needed but my phone also had most of my numbers on its storage so keep that in mind.
UPDATE: well it really didn’t take too long to start missing the convenience of having a cell phone particularly when its your only phone. At first, I really didn’t think it would be a big deal but as we are trying to finalize wedding plans and hunt down some missing RSVPs, not having a phone is not very convenient. Tomorrow (wednesday) is day 3 so I really hope I get a phone call from Sprint.
UPDATE II: I got my phone on thursday morning, after they left me a voicemail on my own number. Yes, the same number I was not able to answer because my phone was broken and even though they took my work number to notify me I never that call. The phone is new but I would imagine it is refurbished from Palm, at least that is the path my old phone will follow from now on…
This evening I came home to find a couple of boxes waiting by our front door, I bent down to picked them up and the shoulder strap of my messenger bag sort of broke off, sending my bag to the ground. Normally it would not be a big deal but tonight, my stomach just knotted the moment I felt the bag come off my shoulder. Why? my powerbook was inside the bag and I just new it was going to take the brunt off the fall.
I have been taking care of my computer since day one so it really bugs me that it now has two dents. A smaller but similar incident happen a while back with the same bag so it is time to move on to something a little more secure. Eventually I might also look into replacing the bottom case of the powerbook to get rid off these blemishes.

update: I found a bottom case on ebay, however, I also found out from a couple of Apple technicians that such repair is a major undertaking. I would have to remove everything off the original case and then replace all components back onto the new case. Certainly not something for the faint of heart and I am not sure that I want to play hardware-tech with my main machine.
To have the case replaced by a professional tech would cost me about $150-$180, including parts and labor. The expensive part is the labor since the repair is somewhat time intensive. The benefit of going this route is the warranty provided with the repair, something I would not be able to provide. Since it is my main machine, I would feel a lot better to have a professional replace the case. Since it is only a cosmetic blemish, I am also going to wait until the wedding and possibly the holidays pass before sending it in for repair.
