While letting iTunes update the list of podcasts, I randomly asked the twitter what podcasts people listened on a regular basis. I received a reply from @donreisinger doing a little self-promotion (which was not needed!) and from @n2teaching with a couple suggestions I did not have on my list.

Instead of posting my list of podcasts on twitter, I might as well post them here and point folks to this list. The list changes from time to time and there are a few old selections in here, which I probably should re-visit. It includes a mix of tech, development, humor and good-for-running selections.

Feedback from current Netflix users, a very good description about Blockbuster’s treatment of movies as a commodity and a well timed trial coupon all played a factor in our decision, but also as a technologist I see Netflix provides a more interesting environment and one I would like to experience.

If you would like to add us to your friend’s network, this is our invitation url.

Our first two movies were Inside Man and Click. We got these a couple of days after we selected them into our queue so I was very impressed by the distribution process and its timing. I don’t have a degree to give you a professional review of the flicks but Inside Man was our favorite of these two. It had a good story to tell and although you could argue it was a bit predictable it kept us engaged through the end. We gave it 5 stars.

Click on the other hand was a little slow and quite predictable. It followed pretty much the romantic-comedy formula that has been Adam Sandler’s staple for the last few movies. We watched it because all of our Sunday shows were reruns so at least we got it off our queue on a slow evening. I believe we gave it 2 stars.

We get our movie rentals from the local Blockbuster mostly because it is just a couple of blocks away and convenience is a great thing. Also, when Sarah suggests we get a movie, it usually means that I will watch the movie while she catches some zzzz’s after watching only part of the movie. This is not a bad thing except we try to catch up on recent releases which are usually a 2-day rental and once in a while we incur some late fees because I forget to take the movie back on time.

We have been talking about signing up for a movie rental service and Netflix was the logical choice until the recent Blockbuster media blitz made me think more about this. I am still thinking Netflix, specially after today’s announcement to deliver movies directly to the pc, but it would be nice to have the option to exchange a movie at the local store for those rare days we want to watch more than one movie. I would be interested in finding out other’s experiences with either Netflix or Blockbuster’s TotalAccess service.

However, once in a while I catch a few minutes of public radio as I make my way to the highway. Today I was lucky enough to catch this gem and reminded me that NPR is still good for a laugh once a while. I wonder if Jane Goodall would be willing to join as a consultant?

Today was the end of the CBS shows that we have been watching all summer. We had to tape BB6 since we had running club tonight but got to see both season finales (sp?). Here are my thoughts on the show winners.

Big Brother 6

Two words: Nerd Herd. Between Maggie or Ivette, I am glad that Maggie won the prise. I guess I really didn’t care for either one to win but since there had to be a winner Maggie was the less annoying of the two and she had my vote. The best part of the finale was watching the rest of the nerd herd realize they were played all season long by their own leader and of course Janelle’s comments. Best part of the show? Jedi Howie

Rock Star INXS

We watched this one from day one, to me it was the grown up version of that idol show so many other people like. I really enjoyed the combination of styles and talents and how the progressed through the show. The top three were not necessarily a surprise and Sarah and I picked Mig being the first one to be eliminated tonight.

JD had the attitude, mostly driven by confidence and passion, from day one but the was able to deliver on stage. Marty truly became a performer while on this show and he has a lot of talent but his attitude and his I-know-what-is-best sort of demeanor got a little old. On stage both knew how to delivery powerful performances but Sarah and I both agreed that JD was a better artist. INXS was not looking for a good person, they were looking for someone to lead their band and I think JD was the best choice.

Although the true winner of this show was INXS. I am not sure how many 18 year olds knew of the band before this show. I am not sure how many would become fans because of the show, but I am sure a lot more “kids” will know the name INXS from now on.

This is not a movie review or anything of the sort but you should really go watch Wedding Crashers, it is worth every single laugh (and there is plenty to go around). I was a bit worried that the movie would be too long for Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn to be funny for the whole thing but they actually were.

The supporting cast was brilliant as well, specially Isla Fisher playing the character of Gloria Clear. I will not give anything away here but she will keep you laughing for days after you watch the movie. If you have not watch it, you are really missing out so stop reading this and make it a point to go watch this movie.

We met a couple of friends for dinner and we had plans to get to Scottsdale’s ArtWalk. Dinner was so great that we only had a few minutes to walk around a few of the art galleries that were still open. I took a couple of photos but we’ll definitely be back in the near future.

The Scottsdale Gallery Association’s signature Scottsdale ArtWalks are a 30-year tradition. Unique in their scope and longevity, they are held every Thursday evening, year-round (except Thanksgiving) from 7-9 pm. Each week, Scottsdale Gallery Association members host special exhibits – many with artist receptions – and join together for an informal come-and-go “open house” throughout the district. Casual and eclectic, it’s a great time to visit the galleries and learn about featured artists
