Suns streak ends at 17

After their showcase on national television, the Suns went to Minnesota and could not answer Kevin Garnett’s scoring in the final minutes of the game. The Wolves beat the Suns 121-112. The current winning streak ends at 17 wins in a row, one short of having the perfect month. They now come home to face San Antonio and Utah before going back on the road.

We decided on Netflix

After asking for input we finally decided on Netflix for our movies. Feedback from current Netflix users, a very good description about Blockbuster’s treatment of movies as a commodity and a well timed trial coupon all played a factor in our decision, but also as a technologist I see Netflix provides a more interesting environment and one I would like to experience.

If you would like to add us to your friend’s network, this is our invitation url.

Our first two movies were Inside Man and Click. We got these a couple of days after we selected them into our queue so I was very impressed by the distribution process and its timing. I don’t have a degree to give you a professional review of the flicks but Inside Man was our favorite of these two. It had a good story to tell and although you could argue it was a bit predictable it kept us engaged through the end. We gave it 5 stars.

Click on the other hand was a little slow and quite predictable. It followed pretty much the romantic-comedy formula that has been Adam Sandler’s staple for the last few movies. We watched it because all of our Sunday shows were reruns so at least we got it off our queue on a slow evening. I believe we gave it 2 stars.

Suns are not starters in the All Star game

The best team in the NBA this year, the Phoenix Suns, will not have a starter in the Western All-Star team despite Steve Nash having another MVP-quality season and Amare Stoudemire having a great season. The fans voted the starters which include Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady which I would argue are not having a better season than Nash.

On the positive side, coach D’Antoni was selected to coach the Western division all stars validating the great work the coaching staff have done over the last few years. All of this as the Suns surpass the Dallas Mavs for the best record in the league and attempting to win their 16th game in a row, twice this season, against the Bucks

I know anytime players are selected for these kind of positions by fans, the results are not going to be true to reality but its frustrating to see the Suns not be rewarded for their hard work. A lot of people are fans of the NBA once again because of the Suns and the fun they bring back to the game, count me as a member of such club. Since Yao is hurt, the Commissioner will select his replacement and hopefully Nash or Stoudemire will be rewarded even though both of them will most likely go as reserves anyway.

update: the Suns defeated the Bucks and have now own 16 games in a row and remain the club with the best record in the league. Their last game of the current road trip extravaganza is Sunday against the Cavs on national television. Don’t miss the game on ABC at 1pm ET.

NFL conference championships

The Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts have made their reservations for Miami to play in the XLI Super Bowl. The Bears beat the New Orleans Saints 39-14 in the NFC Championship game, while the Colts finally got past the New England Patriots 38-34 in the AFC Championship game.

The Bears - Colts game really does not sound all that great since I am not a fan of the Colts and it is hard to rally behind Rex Grossman not knowing which version will show up to the game. Best play of the day had to be Reggie Bush’s catch and run for a touchdown, specially with that move he made on the sideline to get past the Bear’s last man.

So who is it going to win? I would like to see Chicago win it but Indi has been very consistent on both sides of the ball so I could see them being favorites by a few points.

Saturday night at Barrett Jackson

We had some passes for the Barrett Jackson car auction so we made the most of our Saturday evening and decided to check it out. Sarah had been out there on friday night as well, which is how we got our passes, but Saturday night was the not-to-be-missed night.

You certainly get caught up on the rush of the high-speed bidding that goes on with some of these cars. We missed the Shelby Cobra that sold for $5.5 million (the crowd went wild right as we were walking toward the auction area) but were able to see some high-profile and great looking cars.

We saw some of the cars auctioned by the OCC crew with Paul, Mikey and Sr. all on attendance. They sold their cars with matching choppers which was pretty unique. Alice Cooper also had a few cars on sale and we came pretty close to him while checking out this "Billion Dollar Babies" as it was getting ready to on the block. Reggie Jackson was also auctioning one of his cars and threw in a signed baseball bat to sweeten the deal.

Tony Stewart and Chip Foose were frequent visitors on the auction block during the evening, I was told that Tony Stweart had bought a couple of cars earlier in the day, including a home-depot-orange truck. We also saw the Shelby GT500 used on the commercial from Ford which introduces the new model.

Speaking of getting caught in the rush of the auction, I wanted to make a bid on one of the cars, as long as it was one of the first bids, but I could not convince Sarah and the fact we did not have a bidder card would not have helped my cause. Anyways, it was a lot of fun to be out there and thanks to the guy next to me telling us all that extra-info as the cars came on the block, such as the truck bought by Tony Stewart.
