Rain!

When the folks from the NY Times take note of the current drought in Arizona you know it is a serious issue. The good news is that after 143 days without any rain, we finally broke the streak and the bucket is not longer dry.

The bad thing about this weekend’s rainy forecast is that Janessa is in town for her spring break. Her plans to layout by the pool and soak up the sun are now gone and instead she will have to put on the layers when going outside. This reminds me of the first visits we had when we moved to Arizona. We always spoke about the great weather with friends and family, sadly every time we had someone come visit us, the weather would be cold, windy and wet. Exactly like this weekend!

update: it certainly was a wet saturday and a cold weekend in general. The snow level dropped off to about 4000 feet, which means the areas just outside the city were covered in snow for the majority of the weekend. Monday morning, the higher peaks around the valley are still capped with snow. I got the following photo from a gallery on the local newspaper.

  1. It seems as though you have sent over the bad weather, bad luck, etc. to us since we are having a major dry spell here and are now also fighting fires all over. Snow to the north, rain to the south and we are in the middle with no moisture! What kind of rain dance did you guys do?

  2. no kidding, it certainly is a crazy storm all around. Lyn (Sarah’s sister living in Arkansas) sent an email letting her know about the hail and the tornado(s) that hit the area. They are all fine fortunately.

At least you guys had a few storms earlier in the winter season so you are not as dried as we are over here. I am already writing the blog post about the whole state being on fire in a matter of weeks. Hopefully I am wrong about that.

  3. Dude we got like less than an inch of rain on two occasions that is about it. Oh yea the one day we had ice on the ground but that is really nothing to get excited about. Besides when you have a 20 mile wind blowing right after or during it, it will dry up quicker than it hits the ground.
