6Sep05 When words and pictures aren’t enough
We spent this past weekend visiting my parents in Nevada and somewhat disconnected from the world news. We knew that Katrina was becoming the biggest natural disaster to hit the US but we did not keep up with any events over the holiday weekend. On our way back, driving through Nevada’s Great Basin, we were listening to the coverage provided by several news channels on XM Radio. We were both amazed by what we were hearing, despite not being able to watch the images most reporters were referring to while on the air. It was hard to believe this was happening within the borders of this country.
We watch some of the news coverage we had been listening while on the road once we got home Monday evening and I could not believe the images, the damage that was done was not just to property but people were getting hurt more and more everyday. I know there is a lot of commentary and expert opinions a week from the hurricane hitting land, the finger pointing has not stop but I feel that assigning blame at this point does not put food in a person’s mouth nor does it put a permanent roof over their head. I am at a loss for words…
