15Jul05 Good luck Jack
I rushed home after work today to catch the replay coverage from Jack Nicklaus farewell round of golf at The Open. I only picked up golf a couple of years ago but I’ve always known who the Golden Bear is and his contributions to not only golf but sports in general. His name represents honor and sportsmanship, something rarely found among today’s professional athletes.
A great career ended today but an even greater life continues. Good luck Jack and thanks for the memories.

I watched the event myself and the last couple of holes of the final round for the Golden Bear at the Old Course. Emotional I would have to say it was in the end. I think that people have so much respect for him, that even though Tiger Woods may end up breaking his record (if he does), he still will not be the athlete, the man, the gentleman, Jack is! In speaking to another friend we both agreed that Tiger’s win took second fiddle to Jack’s farewell! Who knows if he had made the cut though what may have gone on. Wonder what would have happened if he had even won the whole thing? Who knows, we will never know obviously, but it is nice to think of what may have been!
Thanks Jack!

Forgot to mention, it was nice to see him go out on top with a great birdie on the 18th!

That birdie putt was great, might be one of the more famous shots in his career. Certainly one that people will remember for years.
I would also agree that Tiger’s win does take a backstage but what I find quite intriguing/interesting is the number of similarities that both players share in their careers thus far. The Open was Jack’s 10th major win just like it was for Tiger.
Will Tiger be the athlete or the man that Jack is, I don’t know that would be hard to say in the future but I can see him being just as good as an athlete. However, I doubt that he will ever be seen as the gentleman and true ambassador of the game as Jack is.
