21Jun05 Happy Summer Solstice
What could be better than temperatures over 110F to mark the official start of season? Nothing says summer like the desert heat! As Greta said on a previous comment, this is when we need to remember how perfect the weather is the rest of the year.
While talking about summer, we have made plans for a couple of trips in August to visit friends and family in Texas and Oregon. We’ll be going back to Amarillo during the first week in August so let me know if you will be around. Also, Clinton and Sash will be coming to visit us during the 4th of July weekend which will be a lot of fun. A little golf, some shopping and just letting loose will be the order of the day during their visit. I think we are all certainly ready for that.
Linda and Dwight arrived today to spend a few days with us. We are extremely thankful for their visit and looking forward to a lot of fun over the next few days. So our summer plans are underway, what are you doing during your summer?

At least your weather is somewhat constant, even though it is constantly hot. As the saying over here goes, “if you don’t like the weather wait 5 minutes it is sure to change on you!” It has been a fairly crazy Spring-Summer here in Amarillo ranging from hot days with temperatures reaching 95/96 (I know that is not close to you guys in Arizona), to hail storms, tornadoes, and thunderstorms.
The fact that we are getting them is one thing, but to be at temperatures of 95 during the day, clear sky’s and then moving to Thunderstorms in the evening bringing with it hail and tornadoes is another!
This summer will be a venture of different climates though for us, going to Arizona to visit Okie and Sarah over July 4th weekend, to go to Alb, NM. a couple of weekends after that for a soccer tournament, to then go to San Antonio a couple of weekends of that for another soccer tournament, to finally go home to South Africa in the middle of August for 2 weeks. I might add that they will be coming out of winter at that time so you are moving from temperatures of 90 to 50 within a couple of days.Should be quite the adjustment but very much looking forward to it.
Firstly though looking really forward to seeing my best friend in a couple of weeks to play a bit of golf, see the sites, do some shopping, and as you said just letting loose and doing so much needed R&R! See you soon buddy!

I do recall the afternoon showers during the summer, quite nice to see when you can chill on the balcony with a beer on your hand and see the colors in the ski change.
You certainly have a busy summer this year and since you are coming over here to rest and relax, I guess we won’t make you paint a room like we had planned. We are also ready to see you both!
