I turned in my final exam last night which marked the halfway point for my Master’s program at ASU. One year down and one more to go. Since there is no rest for the weary, today we started our new trimester. For the next three trimesters we’ll be taking one business class and one engineering class, a combination just as demanding as two engineering classes since the business courses are 5 week crash courses!
Our business class is Strategic Technology Management
, which takes an inside look at the role of strategy in today’s technology driven companies. Our first reading is Michael Porter’s Strategy and the Internet where we take a look at the role of Internet technologies in a company’s strategies. I think it will be a very good class with a balance combination of technology and business theories.
Our engineering class is called Testing Real Time Systems
. I am not sure that I can give you as good as a description as the previous course but this is mostly because we don’t have much insight into what this course will be like. I do know that we’ll be creating and testing a technical specification for a video game to run on Windows PC. I guess it will be a fun project with semi-real world applications.
There are a few applications on my PowerBook that I wish were available for my other OSes. One of those applications is the Stickies application available with OS X. I use them to hold certain nuggets of information that I need to "remember" once in a while, without creating much clutter.
Today I found Stickies for Windows which is exactly what the title says. Two nice things about the application when compared with others. The developer provides the source (C# application) for the application in case you are interested. Why is this important? I hardly install new software due to the Spyware and Adware problems that have emerged on Windows. Having access to the source code, allows you to verify that you are installing a clean application.
The second reason is the very clean and friendly interface that is implemented with the application. I don’t want the tool to get in the way with my daily activities, this application provides the functionality I wanted and nothing else. That is a good thing on my book.
Stickies for Windows lets you put yellow sticky notes on your Windows desktop, much like the popular MacOS application. It is very simple, very customizable, and completely free!
Once in a while I find myself having to look up some of the not-so-common commands within some of the applications I use while doing development. In those cases, usually Google can provide an answer but in some cases it is nice to have something on paper. I decided to put together this list of PDF reference cards for future use.
CVS, Subversion, VI, VIM extensions, and XPath
These are a couple of more extensive lists (1, 2) which offer similar reference cards for other applications.
Over the weekend Sarah and I finally rented Napoleon Dynamite and there are officially two more fans of this movie. You really have to be in a mood to enjoy the movie but it is good for a laugh or two. Next time you are not sure what movie to get and you are in the mood for some simple humor, Napoleon and company will come to the rescue.

Hoy inicia Chivas su participacion en la Copa Libertadores contra el equipo chileno de Cobreloa. Despues de varios problemas con el itinerario, el plantel mexicano por fin llego a la ciudad de Calama el martes por la tarde. Obviamente los dos equipos estan hablando de triunfos, uno por ser el local y el otro por ser un mejor cuadro.
Ya que voy a estar en la oficina me toca oir el partido por internet. El problema es que los comentaristas de Terra Mexico son de plano todo un circo, donde hablan de todo menos del partido. Por lo tanto busque otra alternativa y encontre el sitio de Radio Cooperativa para poder escuchar el partido. Tambien esta disponible la cobertura de Terra Chile para seguir el partido textualmente.
