28Oct04 New software implementation
We just finished a three day session with the implementation team for a new software package our office has decided to adopt. The system will be replacing a current Peopleware installation that has reached its limits. I am not sure about the specifics about the decision to migrate or even why this specific company was chose since I was not involved with the evaluation and decision making process. I am just one of the developers that make things happen "after the fact"
The new software has a client and a web interface and it is driven by one common database. The web portion is really just an example implementation of what you can potentially do
and nothing that I would deploy out of the box to our production site. There will be a lot of work on that portion of the implementation just to merge the functionality they provide with our process flow and also our visual look and feel. Given that we have some freedom to work with the captured information, I imagine we’ll go beyond what the company provided us.
Just for kicks, I included an image to show the physical data model for the database that will drive the project. I have not taken a very detailed look into the model but according to the vendor, it is a very clean design and should be easy to digest. You be the judge!
