29Apr04 I’ve not forgotten – Part II
For some reason, shortly after I typed this entry, MovableType was visited by the entry-eating-monster and it disappeared from the site. Seriously, it was there and then it was gone – even from the database.
In any case, I just wanted to get back to my blog since it had been a while since I last visited it. One would argue that I completely abandon this site when this much time goes by without an entry and I would argue completely the opposite. It is these days when I constantly try to find topics that I can bring up here. Usually I can come up with something but then something will get in the way and all of those ideas disappear into the unknown…
Office stuff
I have been really busy at the office working on a project. The project is a continuation from a previous application we developed at the office. I guess you can say it is the next version of the work we did sometime last year. Picking up were we left off was not the easiest of things, mostly because I had not really thought about the project since we turned it for the client almost 4 months ago. As I was going through the code base, I noticed a few things that I knew we could’ve done better now but due to the time frames associated with this next base, I will have to revisit those issues later on. This phase of the application ws delayed mostly due to a miscommunication between us and the client (one of our partners in a new academic venture we are undertaking). We were waiting to hear from them and next thing you know, they wanted this done yesterday. At the end of the day, we are the ones that are horrible people or so they say.
School stuff
Regarding school, that has been a bit crazy as well. I should be watching a lecture right now but I wanted to finish this before I moved on to class. We recently had a project due and it was killer. It pushed all of us a few days behind due to the complexity of the assignment. Now, the group has brought up some concerns with regards to the work load associated with the classes thus far. This term is supposed to be only 10 weeks long and with 2 classes, that gives the faculty only a certain number of opportunities to schedule tests and homework assignments. It can lead to some rather overwhelming periods, like the one we were supposed to have mid-may where there was going to be 2 exams and 2 projects due. Add this to the fact that we all have 45-60 hour work weeks and you can see the group’s concerns.
Now, it looks like the term will be pushed back a couple of weeks to give all of us a bit of a break and some flexibility with the scheduling of activities. Regardless of what happens, I am sure all of us will be glad when these classes are done and over with. Summer can’t get here soon enough.
Quick get-away stuff
Sarah and I are thinking about checking out the Apache Trail this weekend. I really should study a bit but I am all about checking out the scenic Arizona that we have yet to see. I think this was the sentence from the website that sold me on the idea:
40 miles of steep, winding and mostly unpaved road past magnificent scenery of twisted igneous mountains with dense forests of saguaro and ferocactus, and several deep blue lakes.
I wonder if taking Sarah’s car will be a good idea? I’ll have the answer for you after the quick trip.
