8Jan04 Just a couple projects.
This is an entry that I have been waiting a few months to publish but somehow I always manage to either forget about it not I find it not interesting enough — like the rest of the stuff I post here, I know ;o) — so here it is.
One of the things that I enjoy the most about what I do are “on the side”projects. These are little projects that I take on during the year, not to pay the monthly bills, but to continue to learn and pass that same knowledge to my “clients”.
Just a couple of months ago, I volunteered to give my college fraternity’s website a bit of a make over. This one was a bit hard to do since I was working monstly on ideas that I believed were good and not necessarily those that would help the Order itself. I took some of the techniquest that I learned while developing this website and overall I believe that it was a good result. I still have some work to do on that site, since I would like to see more of a community built around it. There are some community needs that still have to be so you can say it is a work in progress.
Another project that I am currently finishing up with is a revamp of a previous work. This one has been fun to do and I think that it will be great once we are done with it all. It is a photo gallery-type website for a group I was part of but that is about as much as I can say for now. There are several packages out there that attempt to tackle the needs of a photo website. I have tried a couple in the past but haven’t found one that I like best. On this site, I used the same tool that I use to post these comments and it is very similar to how i post my photographs, however, photos was not the intended purpose for the software.
Given the great community behind MovableType, I was able to make have been able to make some changes to the code to make sure that it accomplishes the goals I have set forth for each website.
