This year Sarah and I decided not give each other a Christmas gift and instead used that money to spend a few days somewhere else
and we decided on New York City!
I have never been there and Sarah was there a few years ago so we are very excited about this opportunity, even if it just for a few days. We have a small list of the classic sites to visit but given that this is our first time to visit the city we are interested in finding out the little gems the city has to offer. We talked about buying a City Pass but weren’t sure if we would want to see all of the included attractions.
We’ll be in NYC this weekend (Dec. 2-6) so if you have any tips or recommendations you would like to share with us, we would greatly appreciate them.

The pumpkin pie is calling my name but I wanted to take a couple of minutes to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving day and may you be in the company of family and friends.
I recently had a request to integrate an ASP-based web application with our University-wide authentication service. The application had to interact with an executable file through the command line. I found some examples that used the ASPExec component but I wanted to stay away from deploying a special component, specially when I knew it was not necessary to have it in place.
The following code is part of the logic that I used to complete the integration of both systems. In particular, this code, calls an executable program through the command line and reads the result of my operation into the returnString variable. There is some error-checking still to be done but I wanted to post this for others looking for similar information.
commandLine = "C:\WINNT\system32\example.exe " & argumentOne & " -b:" & argumentTwo
Set wshShell = Server.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set cmdExec = wshShell.Exec(commandLine)
Set stdOutResult = cmdExec.StdOut
returnString = stdOutResult.ReadAll
Set cmdExec = nothing
Set wshShell = nothing
Set stdOutResult = nothing
Keeping up with a very new tradition we have acquired Major Tom from buyabird.org. He will join Captain Drumstick who was last year’s Thanksgiving adoption.

Who is Major Tom?
Meet Major Tom, the hunger-fighting turkey with the determination to eliminate hunger once and for all!
He is wearing camouflage and an orange ribbon for hunger awareness.
Reading over last year’s entry, I have realized how much has changed this year alone and we have a lot of reasons to be thankful. Enjoy this holiday season and try to share it with others that might be less fortunate.
