Happy 2005

I did not want the evening to go by without writing this entry. 2004 has been a very good year, one where some personal dreams came true for myself, my family and close friends. We received many blessings over the year and I am very thankful for everything that we have accomplish this year. I wish your 2005 is full of blessings, personal and professional successes, many many laughs and most importantly health and happiness.

Happy New Year from me to you!

NYC Weekend Photos

Activity here has been slow these past few weeks for obvious reasons, I am sure you have not even missed it though since you are busy with your own holiday activities. After someone kept bugging me about it to the point I could not take it anymore, the images from our NYC trip are now posted.

I decided to separate some of the images from the WTC Memorial site on its own album given its history. Enjoy them and now I will get started on the Christmas photos.

That famous ten year plan

It really is nice to be at "home" once again if nothing else just so that I can clean up some of the old stuff (birthday cards from 1994?) and find out that someone I graduated with from high school happens to be involved in the adult entertainment industry these days. I wonder what she was voted "most likely to" and if that ten year plan is working out the way she thought of it back then?

Maribel Domínguez

I just read a story about Maribel Domínguez being introduced as the latest player being signed by Mexican soccer team Celaya for the upcoming 2005 season (esp | eng). The team plays in the First Division-A, which is one level under the main division. The Mexican Federation has asked FIFA for permission to let her play in the men’s league. The final decision should be made in the next few days but sources are reporting a physical examination done to the player to asses any possible risks involved for Maribel and other players.

I am not sure on what the "right" decision should be given the fact that you are speaking about professional team sports. I believe she has the athletic merits to earn an opportunity but you also have to keep in mind other players. I will be interesting to see the outcome of this situation.

update: FIFA has denied Maribel and Celaya’s request to sign the player to a contract according to FIFA’s announcement. (esp | eng)

There must be a clear separation between men’s and women’s football. This is laid down in league football and in international matches by the existence of gender-specific competitions, and the Laws of the Game and FIFA’s regulations do not provide for any exceptions.

Maribel has taken the decision with disappointment but has handled it like a professional. (esp) She just wanted an opportunity to see for herself what it would’ve taken to play at that level.

Hanging out at the airport

Due to some weather problems in Salt Lake City, our plane was re-routed to Grand Junction, Colorado. In the process I missed my connection and now I am hanging out at the SLC Airport until 8:30pm, the next and only flight to Elko today. So drinking $7 beers and watching some TV will be how I spend my Saturday afternoon.

Knowing I was going to be here for a while, I managed to find a seat by the wall outlet so I could get some stuff done on the computer. That is the good news, the bad news? I packed my charger in my checked luggage!!

Follow the link below to follow along this adventure, one that will change the way I travel for quite some time to come. The last update? I am spending the night here at the airport, follow the link for the whole story.
