S+S Weekend Recap

As I mentioned it before, Shane and Suzana, were here for a week visiting us from Houston. It was a busy week that is for sure, even Shane said he needed to get back to work so he could recuperate from this vacation. If you knew about Shane’s job, you would completely understand this statement. Read more about our vaction week here.

We had plans to go to San Diego during the 4th of July weekend but things changed last minute. Suzana’s grand father passed away a few days before and she had to fly out to California on Thursday to spend some time with her family. Shane stayed here in Phoenix and I took off from work on Thursday to spend some time with him.

Thursday morning we were off to play my first round of golf here in AZ, I guess it really was my first “serious” round of golf ever. We played the at TPC (same club that plays host to the Phoenix open, although we did not play the actual course) and it was great. It was a hot day but that did not matter one bit while we were out there. I shot a 104 as my first official score. Of course, there were a couple of holes where I lost my ball and I played Shane’s ball to keep things moving along. It was a lot of fun being out there and I also have to apologize to the people that live in one of those condos right on the 18th hole fairway. If I broke something in your patio, I am really really sorry!!!!

Friday was 4th of July and Suzana was getting back that evening. Shane and I shoot off to the Biltmore resort to play another round of golf. We played the Adobe course at the Biltmore and what a difference it was from the day before. TPC’s course was called “The Desert course” for obvious reason, Adobe was the complete opposite. This course was lush green and beautiful. It really was your typical “picture” golf course with multi million dollar houses surrounding the entire course. This time I also shot a 104, so I guess that will be my number for a little while. No need to apologize to anyone here either since the course was so wide and most of the houses were on the left side of the fairways!!!!

That evening we went to Tempe to kill some time while Suzana’s flight arrived. We visited our always comfortable place to day drink: “Dos Gringos”. After we went to the airport we went back to Dos Gringos for some food a few more $2 Coronas. I have read that this place is/was at some point the number one place in the US as far as Corona sales goes. We did a pretty good job at supporting this fact. We sort of got a glimpse of the fireworks from our table but nobody really seemed to be too interested in them. While going to re-validate our parking spot, I was able to take some pretty good pictures of the fireworks.

Saturday marked the day we were going to escape the 100+ weather and head up to the forest country of northern Arizona (yes, we do have a forest!!!). We started our scenic drive heading up to Prescott. Once we got there, I thought we could do a quick drive into the downtown area before heading further north to Jerome. My 5 minute drive, quickly turned into a 30+ minute drive due to some parade they were having at that same time and causing some streets to be blocked off. The traffic, needless to say, did not help either since Prescott is not some sort of metropolis with the luxury of 4 lane streets. We finally managed to head out of there and got back in route to Jerome, AZ. The rest of the drive was simply beautiful or so they tell me since I was concentrating on keeping the car between the white lines that marked the edge of the road. This is certainly one of those times where I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Overall it was a great week and I was really happy to see Shane and Suzana again. The last time I had seen them was during their weeding so it was time to meet up again. I had not heard so many symbolisms for the “7-14” in a long time!!!!!
