23Jul03 Learning Cricket!
During my visit to South Africa, I was lucky enough to be introduced to cricket. While we were on holiday and the guys were playing golf, I stayed behind and watched the cricket world cup that was going on at the time. I learn a lot of the rules and the game itself from Clinton’s family (and Jodi!) and even go to the point where I knew who “Shane Warne”, “Hansie Cronje” and “Shaun Pollock” were.
In any case, why am I saying all of this? Well, had it not been for that trip and the opportunity to experince cricket first hand (where Clinton almost broke my ribs!!) I would not know how to play the game. To help the rest of the world intersted in learning the game with a different spin to it, I found this article. If nothing else, it does make for a good laugh.
The area where the table is, where the pie-eaters sit, is called the pitch. At either end of the pitch is a line marking the crease. Now, lets say that inside one of these creases, your pies are cooling on top of three sticks, which are called stumps. This contraption is called a wicket and theres a man attempting to knock the wicket over by throwing a ball at it.
If this article does not make cricket as easy as 1,2, 3 I am not sure that cricket will be part of you :o) Also, over the weekend, Clinton realized that my licence plates are ###-LBW (leg before wicket) — only Clinton would come up with that!

Hello my fine friend!
Read your article on learning about Cricket! What a pleasure to be reminded of that holiday!. I am sure that you know already but just for incase: Hansie Cronje was killed in a tragic aeroplane accident a while back. We mourn the loss of a good man and a good cricketer. Also just a quick not to remind you that it is Clint’s birthday on the 3rd August….. and to let you know that you are still missed here in Sunny South Africa. Much love!

I know it has been a while, but I was scanning over some of your old articles and came across this one and had to make one, well maybe two comments just depending on how I feel.Firstly,it is Shane Warne, not Sean Warne, and secondly, that is how we introduce newcomers to the game of cricket by beaming a ball at there ribs. You are lucky you know I could have gone all the way and stuck the ball between your eyes!
